It is said that in ancient times, there were 10 suns in the sky, all of whom were the sons of the Dongfang emperor. The 10 Suns lived on the East China Sea with their mother, the wife of the emperor. She often took her 10 children to bathe in the East China Sea in the easternmost world. After the bath, she let them perch on a big tree like birds. Nine of the sun were perched on the shorter branches, the other sun was perched on the treetops.

People lived a very happy and harmonious life on the earth. People, liked their neighbours and friends, lived together, life was happy!

 

   However, these 10 suns felt bored, they wanted to travel around the sky together, thought it must be very interesting. So, when the dawn came, they climbed into a two-wheeled car together and embarked on a journey through the sky. But, the people and all things on the earth could not stand it. Indeed, 10 Suns are like 10 big fires, the heat they emit together scorched the earth and burned a lot of people and animals. The forest was on fire, and all the trees, crops and houses were burnt to ashes. Those who did not burn to death in the fire, ran frantically looking for places to escape the disaster and life-saving water and food.

 

   The river and sea dried up, all the fish were dead, and the monsters in the water climbed ashore to steal food. People were either burned alive by the heat of the sun or became food in the mouth of the beasts. People struggled in the fire disaster, praying for the gift of God!

 

   At this time, there was a handsome young hero of the great God called Hou Yi, he was an excellent Archer. He was summoned by the emperor and received the mission of driving away the suns. So, Hou Yi climbed over 99 high mountains, crossed 99 rivers, passed 99 canyons, came to the east coast and boarded a mountain. Hou Yi then, opened the million Jin force crossbow, put on the heavy arrow, aimed at the hot suns in the sky and whooshed an arrow shot: the first sun was shot down. Hou Yi opened the crossbow again, took the arrow, buzzed a sound, and shot down two suns at the same time. Hou Yi felt that the suns were still scorched and shot the third arrow hard. The arrow shot very powerfully and dropped four Suns. The rest of the suns trembled with fright and swirled. He continued to shoot the suns one by one, and finally achieved to kill 9 suns!

 

   From then on, the sun rose every day from the seaside of the east, falling from the Western hills at night, warming the world, keeping all things alive, and people living in peace and contentment.
